All Issues of the Fort McKavett Gazette

To All,

I am forwarding a signed copy of the Texas Buffalo Soldiers (TBS) Program - Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Historical Commission (THC). Attachments include the list of the TBS Regiment organizations and their classification with TPWD, TBS Letter of Conveyance of collections and equipment to THC that remains at the Fort Sites. Review the information and contact me with any questions at Cell: 512.627.5314. If your organization Executive Officers has changed please forward that information also, along with current contact information. This Special Bulletin is being sent to those Units and organizations identified in the MOU. The individual troopers of Company K, 9th Cav with TPWD is included in this communiqué and are an official part of the MOU. As I update my contact information additional names will be added to the Company K Enlistment Rolls. Over the next few weeks I will be contacting you individually for additional information.

A TBS Regimental Meeting will be held at Lake Brownwood State Park on Thursday, April 24, 2008. This Regimental Meeting will focus on certification for those who can attend and planning for the Workshop scheduled for August 2008. The TBS Workshop will be scheduled for August 4 or 6, 2008, the day before or after the Youth Rodeo in Mesquite at Resistol Arena. I will confirm the location within the next few months. This 1-day meeting will be focused on the TPWD/THC MOU and will involved staff from both Agencies.

I have found some of my old contact information and most of the numbers have been changed or not working. A few sound as if they are still buried in your barn under a pile of hay or under water in the last creek you crossed or buried in a sand dune in the Chihuahuan Desert. So, please forward your new contact information.

For those of you who cannot attend and/or not in Texas or just barely still in Texas (talking ‘bout you El Paso Troops and the Ladies of Cochran County), we will forward the Minutes of the meetings and keep you informed as we go. It is going to be great fun working with both TPWD and THC. The Texas Historical Commission brings a tremendous amount of historical value and resources to the table. We are glad to be provided this official opportunity to work with the THC Staff.

For those partners and supporters who are out-of-state, if you wish to be added to the Texas Regimental Communiqué’s mailing list, please advise.

Today is a good day, until next time.

Ken Pollard
