Current Projects – In Progress

Texas Buffalo Soldiers Documentary Project

Mr. Dave Carter, a Photojournalist with WFAA TV in Dallas, and some of his TV news friends created a production company, RUSTY SPUR PRODUCTIONS and the first production was an hour long documentary about Fort Chadbourne. Narrated by Barry Corbin “The Lost Fort” was premiered at the Texas Hall of State on May 15th 2008. Their goal is to make a seven show series that take a look at Texas’ historic Posts and the rolls they played in developing this great state. The next production currently in the works covers the Buffalo Soldiers and the role they played in frontier history. He wants to be as accurate as possible and that is why he needs the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Regiment.

Since Rusty Spur Productions has does not have a real budget and little funding, I have agreed to partner with  the Production Company and assist with expenses to get the Regiment Troops to various locations for filming purposes. I will be inviting TPWD and THC media to be present at some of the filming because some of the encampment setups will be more detailed and authentic than what is seen in Hollywood  and History Channel productions. And, for some of us, this will be one of our last big things we, the original Texas Buffalo Soldier Regiment, will be able to do together. Basically, we are not getting any younger and we need to do what we can to leave the legacy to those who follow. More details will be provided through Bulletins.

UPDATE: We have confirmation for Judge Joe Brown to be the narrator for the Buffalo Soldiers Documentary Project. I have reviewed with Dave and we have agreed to set up an encampment when Judge Brown is scheduled to be in Dallas. This will be sometimes in December and will be short notice, it cannot be helped. We will find a location to setup a small encampment as a backdrop. Who ever can show up, it will be greatly appreciated. I will be able to reimburse expenses. Call me for details.

Texas Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Trail Project

The Texas Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Trail Program is still working and I am currently re-scheduling meetings with TPWD, THC and other Program Partners. I will forward more information as it becomes available.

Texas Buffalo Soldiers Program Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The Texas Buffalo Soldiers Program MOU with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Historical Commission (THC) has gone very well, pretty much, business as usual. As we continue our work with all the Fort Sites, our mission remains the same “to serve in their memory by preserving places of conscience and places of commemoration.” The first annual Report was submitted to TPWD and THC in July and all transfer related business was completed and our partnerships with the Sites continue with no issues.
