Purpose

The purpose of the Texas Buffalo Soldier Association is to provide support and guidance that preserves places of conscience and commemoration of the Texas African American military experience. In addition to preserving and commemorating the story of the Buffalo Soldiers, the Association also illuminates the world in which they lived and worked by chronicling the experiences of vaqueros, African American cowboys, American Indians, frontier women, and other cultural groups during the 1800s and interprets our shared Texas heritage.

Goals

The first goal of the Texas Buffalo Soldier Association provides support to charitable, educational and natural/cultural preservation activities for the public.

The second goal of the Texas Buffalo Soldier Association identifies minority citizens, sites and properties that have historical and cultural significance in Texas and American history.

The third goal of the Texas Buffalo Soldier Association provides technical assistance and guidance with minority programs, events and projects that preserve or enhance the natural/cultural resources of Texas.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Texas Buffalo Soldier Association is to preserve places of conscience and places of commemoration important to the Texas African American military experience and the African-American Heritage. This will be accomplished through educational initiatives, joint collaborations and partnerships between members of the Association, along with support from other individuals, groups and organizations

Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Historical Commission have a working agreement about the Texas Buffalo Soldier Programs now. Details can be found on our News from Members page.

This is a very good agreement for the Buffalo Soldiers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas Historical Commission.

Great things are coming!!!
